Battery compartment. Bad access

2008 Winnebago Journey 39z.

Almost impossible to check water level or add water. Can not believe that Winnebago has such a poor design.

We are seniors and rather new to motor homing and would appreciate any suggestions you might have to solve this problem.

Thanks

I solved it on my 09 Journey by buying maintenance free AGM batteries. My batteries are on a slide out tray and were not too difficult to service. Certainly don't want the batteries taking up prime basement real estate so the location will always reflect that reality on recent vintage coaches. Good luck,

Use this; Profill Battery filling system.

For less than $100 for this system, you can check/fill your house batteries from outside the coach with no trouble in less than a minute.

Ours are like yours- VERY difficult to access. Super simple now. I think Tweety's had the best prices but its available at many places.

I replaced mine with AGM's. Leave them and forget them, no watering. I like to simplify things as much as possible.

x2 profill. It takes longer to find the jug of distilled water than to fill the batteries.

I also use Pro Fill. Works good for me.

Thanks to all for taking the time to respond. We very much appreciate the helpful information. We do not have a slide out tray for the batteries. We will try the Profill and when new batteries are needed consider the AGM. THANKS again. Mike and Sandy

Mike,
Both battery trays should be built to slide out. Lift up on the bar across the front of the tray and it should release the latch so you can pull it toward you. The house batteries on the top tray, unless they were replaced with something else, should be the type with removable caps so you can check the water level. The chassis batteries, engine starting batteries, on the lower shelf should be maintenance free batteries which you can not check.
