Basement AC problem
Got one! My basement will not operate in cool mode but both compressors operate in heat mode.
Ran the generator and still no cooling and no heat until I set the temp more then 4 degrees higher then room then the gas heat started and the basement unit started and both compressors kicked in.
Spooky! Any ideas.
Sitting in Carson City Nevada, Reno Winnie dealer says middle on October before I can get in. Wouldn't mind if I lived here but I'm 2800 miles from home. Other shops say they don't work on basement air. Only mobile tech I found that does do basement air just left on vacation.
Anybody know of a shop in the area that works on basement air?
Temps in the 90's the next few days. My only salvation is I've already added a roof air and if I close off the back of the coach the front is tolerable.
I'd really like to get it fixed as I don't want to head home at this time. HELP.

I don't know if your circumstances allow but it is not real hard to pull the basement air unit. If you can pull it you can take it to a shop and have it checked out. I pulled the unit in my 39 K (without helpers) and cleaned it & replaced a bearing so I know it is doable. Just a thought. Oh, another thought. You could pull the little control box in the galley and check to make sure all the wires are connected. There is a small cover if the upper left of the basement unit as you look at it from the street. I don't remember if that is where the circuit board is located but you could pull that cover to take a look to see if there may be a loose connection.

Earl, Sorry about your dilemma. Don't know your route home, but a couple of possibilities, Carson City is only 1/2 an hour away, you can try a dealer there. Bend your route down the back of the Sierras (Hwy 395 to I-5 to I-215 to I-10) to Redlands, CA. Contact Redlands RV. They are very familiar with the basement air. They also have hook ups if you need to stay in your rv while repairs are done. Getting some replacement parts can take a few days.

Cider, both compressors do run so I don't see a need to pull the unit. I believe it's a control system problem. Just can't run in cool mode. Although it doesn't won't to run on the generator until the gas heater starts. Strange!
Star, I'm in Carson City and I've tried both Carson and the Winnie service so far to no avail. I was actually hoping someone actually know a shop that they knew for sure works on basement within a reasonable area on Carson/Reno area.

I would check the 12v control wire from tstat, Y1, for voltage leaving the tstat, entering the pc board in the basement unit and the 12v relay controlling the #1 compressor.
In heat mode, compressors are controlled by the basemwent pc board, not the tstat, after receiving 12v signal from tsat on W wire ( I believe).
In heat mode, both compressors are always in use.

Any qualified HVAC company should be able to work on your basement unit since it is basically just a household heat pump. A neighbor sent one of his guys to charge ours and trouble shoot it. Turned out the thermostat was reading five degrees off to start with.
If you are able it will help the cost to partially remove it and put on some buckets or something so they can get at it. This is very helpful http://www.rvforum.net/miscfiles/Bas...attredirects=0

Earl - have you reset the thermostat? It's never happened to me, but I've many times on the forum that a reset will clear crazy, illogical symptoms. Just cycle your house batteries off for about 30 seconds. May not help, but it's easy to do...
