Good ole coke or pepsi works too, be sure to rinse well not to attract flies.

I find it difficult to believe that non-maintenance free batteries can go for extended periods of time (e.g., more than a month or so) without needing water. But, that's just me!

The turkey baster works best for me. All of the other methods that I've seen are too clumsy or ridiculously over priced. Most plastic items won't last, including the baster. But, for a buck or two I can replace it several times a year and not get ripped off.

And, when home and plugged in to shore power for extended periods, I use a device similar to this one to keep house and chassis batteries charged.

Battery Defender Pro 12 Volt 3 Amp

(Actually, I just noticed that the "Battery MINDer" is one of the advertisers here. Just so happens that that's the one I use. But, clicking on the link goes no where!)

When adding Distilled water to the batteries, i've found if you just cover the plates inside the battery, and fininsh filling the cells with mineral oil it solves corrosion and gassing.Mineral oil the same stuff people take, found at a the
drug store.

That garden sprayer sounds like a good idea.. I may look for an even smaller one than the one I use for campfires (That one does not get DISTILLED, just tap water)

I have a 1 1/2 gallon unit.. IT is old, the pump broke, I modified the filler so I put an inspection plug in it to seal it.. I put a tire valve stem in it (metal from the auto crome shop (not a truck type) so I pump it up with my electric huffer puffer (Sears Crafstman air compressor) to aroudn 50-60 PSI.. Does a number on sparks that fly onto things that should not be sparked.
