I found the Eaton Cutler hammer BD2050 circuit breaker for 18 bucks, waiting response from vendor if the sell BD 5020, if not I'll just put 12_2 wire from 2nd compressor over. I saw on this thread that someone used a 30/50 breaker, my wire size to compressors are 12 guage which requires a 20 amp breaker, 30 amp are for 10 guage wire, 15 amp 14 guage, a rule of thumb that ensures protection

Good luck to both of you. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help!

I was checking the ats for the 2nd power cord lug for 50 amp hookup and noticed a 12-2 wire in the opening that I traced to the 20 amp breaker for the 2nd compressor, I wanted to details on how to wire the 2nd compressor that was mentioned here once before, not real sure what steps needed done and why. Thanks

That 12-2 wire you're talking about that goes from the second hot lug of the Power Cord section of the ATS to the second 20 amp breaker can be removed or abandoned in place. In the 30 amp load shedding configuration, it feeds the #2 compressor. There's a wire that comes from the #2 A/C compressor that goes into the second hot (red) lug at the Load Center section of the ATS - that wire will need to be rerouted from the ATS to the breaker box and landed on the second 20 amp breaker lug. Here are 2 wiring diagrams - the first one is the factory 30 amp configuration (current) and the second one is 50 amp configuration (where you want to be). Hope this helps.

Yes sir, happy to help. I haven't been to Erie since I was a kid, but I spend a lot of time in Pittsburgh - I grew up about an hour outside of Pittsburgh. I'm hoping to catch a Steelers game this year and do some RV tailgating!

Jeff, I just looked at the link for your 6GA wire. It rates the MAX AMPS as 45 (Based on NEC Table 400.5(A)(1)). Would that be sufficient for 50amp service? Wouldn't one need 4GA wire?? I don't know; just asking. Thanks

Your thoughts are good. You will go from 30A total to 2x50A legs or 100A of available power. See if this will help:

http://www.winnebagoind.com/diagram/2000/131884.pdf In this diagram you have the 50A wiring option provided for you.

Please keep us up to date on this project.

Hmm... to be perfectly honest, I didn't look at the max amp rating. I just looked at the drawing - given that the power cord requirements on the drawing went from 10GA (30amp) to 6GA (50amp), that's what I went with. I'll have to investigate further... maybe add up all of the breakers I have on each leg and see where it puts me.

I'd say you're fine with 6GA copper. The charts I'm reading have 65 amp for 6 ga. You're only running 12 feet or so and amperage rating has to do with length of run as well as ambient temp so try not to run too far or with the wire near any heat sources, like the engine.

Take a look at my post #30. These diagrams are a great example of how 30A and 50A circuits are wired. All specs are there for you.

Jeff, the wire that is currently connected to the second hot terminal on the ats load center that connects to the 2nd compressor is that removed entirely from ats?
