windshields and bugs !!

<span class="ev_code_PURPLE">You will be pleased to know we are doing our part to help control the bug population. On our way to the campground this afternoon we hit more bugs that I would have thought possible. It is really nasty !! Anyone have a really good product suggestion for easily removing the bug guts ??</span>

I use vinegar and water, 50/50 mix. Getting them wet and letting "soak in" before trying to wipe them off seems to work best.

Same problem here we went to our campground last night and we were attacked. We use Rain X on the windshield and seems to help some.

Downey Dryer Sheets - wet vehicle, wet dryer cloth, wipe on, wipe off, wash residue off. Been using it for years.

As Adrian says, dryer sheets work very well. It does help if you use Rain-X or another similar treatment on the glass...makes them easier to remove. I use No Wet on the front cap and windshield. Bugs still stick but not as bad. Most times, I can remove them with a microfiber cloth and water.

Good question because it is one of life's little annoyances while on the road. When we have a good collection of bugs at the end of a travel day, my routine right after getting settled in the campground is to:

+ prepare a bucket of car wash soap
+ use my pole-mounted squeegee/scrubby pad to wash the windshield (like a ScotchBrite pad)
+ throw several buckets of rinse water on the glass
+ sometimes I finish the job with Windex and paper towels

Our method has been a heavy coating of Turtle Wax on the front of the House and Rain-X on the Glass. Wash them off at days end....
One time I thought about plain Hot Water and tried it with the soft scrub brush. The hot water just lifted that debris off the glass and the front of the House like it was butter.
Plain Hot Water for me....Easiest is best.

I finally found out why the outside shower spigot has hot and cold available.

Ditto on the heavy coat of wax on the front and Rain-X on the glass. I get the hottest water possible and simply use my brush and squeege and rarely have to do anything else. If I'm feeling really frisky I may top it off with a little windex.

Like smlranger, I also use No-Wet with either a microfiber towel or scrub pad when I stop for the day. When gasing up I usually spray the window with 409 followed with their window wash.

Been using the dryer sheets for over a year. They are cheap, easy to use, and work great. You just have to rinse off all of the white film or you'll see it again when it dries.

You know I always sort of laughed at the dryer sheet comments I read. But on one of our 7 hour drives home as my son and I counted to see which side killed more bugs on the way home I realized I was going to have to clean all those suckers off. Well I have a pole and scrub pad that John spoke of but for the heck of it I tried the dryer sheet. Well I will say that I am 100% sold on it. I grabbed 20 or so from the box and put them in a zip lock in the compartment with the scrub pad.

After a great BUG FILLED weekend, I was wondering how to get them off the windshield.

I was going to do a search on this forum but didn't have to. There it was right on top! So after my birthday cake and ice cream today, I'm going to try the dryer sheets.

Treat the windshield with "Aquapel". This product was developed by PPG for the aviation industry to treat windshields. Have used RainEx, but " Aquapel" totally is a better product, plus it lasts longer and is easier to apply. O'Reilly Auto sells it under a PPG label or it is available as " Aquapel" on Ebay.
