As I recall, having only done this once, I had to use a mirror and a flashlight to locate the screws for the shade unit. I did not have to remove the valance stuff. There are brackets and only one screw holding the shade frame in place. Not counting the trip to JoAnn Fabrics to get the cord, and the hour spent figuring out how to get the things down, it only took half a day to restring it.

When you have it down, look carefully at every place the cord passes through the metal and make sure it is not going to cut it (again).

Captain Bud, the above link "another one...." has hints how to drop the blind from the valance. I understand Winnie is well-aware of the problems, and they are offering a repair kit with new grommets and string. Try checking with Winnie parts in Forest City; also ask them to put it on your warranty record.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the super prompt replies, I even spoke to Driver on the land line and he gave me some info. Well as I stand now I have the shade on my dining room table ready to restring. I'm going up to a sporting goods store and see what kind of fishing line will work. I will try to get some sort of braided line of maximum strength that will resist abrasion. With all the info from my fellow RVers it doesn't seem that bad of a job. I printed out the routing diagram so it should be fairly easy. I'll keep you all posted...

Captain Bud,
While you have the blind apart, please inspect the holes the grommets are in. In many cases the holes need to be deburred or the strings will wear again. The holes in the plastic strips should be checked as well as the ones in the metal.
After I deburred all the holes and restung the blinds for the 2nd time I no longer see any fuzzing on the strings. Been a couple of years now and the first restring only lasted about 8 months.

Mission Accomplished!! I successfully restrung my Day/Nite shade and here are some observations.
1. You must have a large table to work on.
2. Do it slowly with no distractions.
3. Get someone to help you with the install of the shade after you have restrung it.
I estimate that after this it would take me about one hour to do the next one.
If anyone has this problem I would certainly recommend that they attempt to do it.
