We just purchased a "new" 2000 Chieftain Diesel.
I like just about everything except the performance. It is very sluggish. I drove an indentical unit which had a little more pep.
The oil was changed along with the air filter by the dealer.
I am looking for opinions/advice from anyone who has upgraded the Cummins for more horsepower.

Thanks,
Matt

How many miles are on it?

On the Cummins engine in the Dodge truck you boost HP with a chip that pig tails in the engine control wiring, dont know about your Motor home though.
One thing is you have to up grade the exhaust system and watch oil temp and boost at the turbo also if jump the HP up alot with power chips.
You might just take it in and get the engine checked to see if the Turbo and engine performance parts are performing up to standards, may just need a little tweaking is all.

Finally had a chance to get to Cummins South here in the Atlanta area and they found a small hose that was defective. It almost looked like a two foot section of heater hose but had something to do with the turbo boost.
Coach now runs MUCH better. Still would rather have one of those 400HP motors but......

My motor is the 275HP Cummins ISB and they said that it could not be upgraded by them to increase the HP ..... bummer..

If anyone has modified one of these engines, I sure would like to know.

We have the same 2000 chieftain dp. The first thing i added was a turbo boost gauge so i could see what was going on with engine. When i put my foot into it i read about 27 on the boost gauge. If you get the right cummins dealer they can hook up there lap=top and take it to 315hp,your allison 3060md 6 speed tran should handle that ok.Then add a trans and turbo temp-gauges.I pull a 2001 jeep-wrangler and really have no problems with the 315hp.Check to make sure that cummins extened the oil blow by tube so your radiator does not suck it in.

Bob,
Thanks for the links!

Bill,
Thanks for your info. I thought I saw somewhere that the ISB could be reprogrammed for a little more horse power. Guess I will have to try another dealer.
