Synthetic Oil

I have a 2014 Navion . I took it to Mercedes for its 1st oil change last year . It is now due for service again . I have found a garage and mechanic that I trust. My question is they use Castrol full synthetic oil . Is that comparable to Mobile 1 ?

Yes and personally I think it may even be better than Mobil 1. Personally I use AMSOIL and would not let anyone put anything else in a motor I own.

I provide the mobile 1 oil and filter to the shop doing the oil change. Just pay them for the oil change labor and chassis lube.

I second your preference. Amsoil is all I use on all vehicles.

Castrol is good as well.

No hater here. Being a "shade tree mechanic", I like to search for ways to maintain my vehicles. The unbiased research I have read, and there are many, reveal that all of the major/well-known brands have similar chemistries and perform well. So, whether it's Amsoil, Castrol, Mobil 1, Motorcraft, Pennzoil, Quaker State, Royal Purple, and Valvoline for example, don't worry! As for oil filters, some do perform better than others: Bosch, Napa Gold, and Wix rise to the top. Again, any major/well-known brand is reliable. And always use the oil weight recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

John. What matters is this: the oil brand is immaterial. What is vital is that what ever brand you must meet Mercedes Benz specification 229.51 or 229.52. That is what is required. It will say "approved" MB 229.51 or 229.52. Not "meets" ........

Why? You need to protect the very expensive to replace emission control system. Like the DPF and other pricey bits. 229.51 & .52 are the only approved oils for your engine.

Today...the grade 5W30 is back speced for our MY. It was 5W40.

Mobil 1 ESP 5W30
Valvoline MST 5W30

Personally, I'd get it from the Benz store (MB branded Mobil) or your local parts store.
