Swapping single DIN for double DIN

Here is my current 1999 Adventurer - thinking of removing (once I figure out how to get these old HUs out) and enlarging the opening and adding a souble DIN with carplay, etc...

Unless anyone has any better ideas!

(I wish the HU was about the climate control)

As to removal see below.

As to changing to a double DIN device contact Crutchfield by phone or online. They specialize in this kind of thing.

Your best bet is to drive the RV to a Car Audio Installation shop. They'll not only know how to remove it, but how to convert you system to a Double DIN radio.

If you're going to mess with the HU and start cutting anyway why not try to move the climate control to where you want it?

I mean I could...

I'd have to measure to see if enlarging the opening to include the climate and cigarette lighter would fit a double din.

But then creating a nice clean opening for the climate buttons would be more of a challenge...

Was thinking easiest option or if someone had done something similar previously..

I would look into companies that make dash panels for the marine industry. Such as: https://www.tecnografic.com/gallery

You could have them make a cover panel for that entire area with the cutouts exactly how you want them.

If you check with Audio specialists, like Crutchfield or a Car Audio installer you will quickly learn that you don't have to CUT anything. Many single DIN radios with double DIN sized video screens are on the market.

Here's a Jensen with Apple Car Play and Android Auto on Crutchfield with a Double Din sized screen for a single DIN form factor radio:

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_110CAR....html?tp=72430

Here's how that screen works with a single DIN radio sized opening:

My c03 Ultimate Advantage came w\a 1.5 din unit. I enlarged the hole in the plastic dash panel to double din size w\a handheld jigsaw. From your picture, I believe the radio plus the temp controls would be larger than a double din hole. Proceed carefully, and measure several times to be sure before cutting.

As for getting the old unit out, Winnebago normally uses Ford type installations that take a two piece wire tool that goes into the two holess on each side .. I made my own tool from a wire coat hanger.
