Iordered the heater control valve and will patch up the vac lines and hope that solves things. at the least it is a start.
as for running codes... looked all over for the plug and simply cant find the thing. it is hidden well.
the motor is a vortec v8. not what i was told. So it only has a single coil. replaced the coil with one from a 5.7 ltr burban and it fired right up. now i just need to figure out what version of a v8 i actually have.

I might be able to help you out ID'ing your engine if you can share your VIN#. Hopefully it's a GM engine.

The sticker says Vortec V8.
The Vin is:5b4lp37J9y3323634
According to the 8th character in your VIN#, you have a 7.4L (454) L29 MFI GM Engine which is identified by the letter "J". An 8.1L engine would have a "G" in that position.
So now you know your engine type.
The OBDII port should be pretty much where mine is, to the left of the steering column up front. It looks like a D shell connector and it may even be covered by a cap.
