Slides out, Jacks down or?

Or the other way around. does it matter? I have read it should be slides out first, any reason why? I would rather get the beast level first and in case I have to move it around, don't want to bother with slides in and out again! I only have 2 18' slides, don't know if that makes a difference?

I level first then put out the slides. The only exception to this is some manufacturers with full wall slides recommend slide out then level. I'm not sure of the logic of that, but then I didn't design the coach.

We normally park on fairly level ground (dirt, concrete or asphalt) so the way we do it may not work if you are parking somewhere that's really uneven.
We extend the slides then level. When leaving we lower the jacks and then retract the slides. My thinking is, there can be quite a bit of stress placed on the chassis and body when you try to level. So by extending the slides first it eliminates the slide moving on a twisted opening. When the MH is sitting on the ground most of the twisting is absorbed by the suspension.
There seems to be as many ways of using the jacks as there are types of MHs. Different ways work for different people.

Good Luck figuring it out.....

Those are Newmars recommendations and what I do with ours.

Other manufacturers say different things and it may depend on the leveling system you have.

Under warranty or not, I would follow the recommendations in the Winnebago Owners Manual. I level first, then extend the slides. I would guess that might be the recommendation for your rig. JMHO

Hi,

I have a 2014 Adventurer and my owners manual says to level first then put slides out plus with engine has to be running to provide sufficient voltage to operate slide.

I would suggest you read owners manual!

Every setup is different so read the manual many coaches and slide systems want the coach relaxed when the rooms go in and out so they require you put the rooms out then level. I could list a dozen or more coaches that if you level 1st you will likely not get the rooms out because they will bind every time. So first find out what your manual or coach manufacture says and ignore the guy at the campground and in here.

I level first, then slides. One thing for sure, I found out the hard way, do not put the slides out if the coach is not level as it likely crushed the nylon glides that my HWH slide. I put my large slide out briefly in the driveway with the front lower than the rear and very soon after I had to replace the front glide....to the tune of $850 at Forrest City. The coach is in less stress when it's level than when uneven.

No need for guesswork and such its all covered in the operators manual.

From page 103 of the Operators Manual for your coach:

"Before Extending!
• Level the coach and set the Parking Brake.

• Release the slideout locks (front slideouts
only).
• Make sure exterior compartment doors are
closed so that they will not interfere with
slideout operation.
• Make sure that there are no people who could
be harmed or obstacles that could cause
damage due to room extension.
• If the slideout room has a couch or other
furniture, make sure no people or pets are
seated on them until the room has been fully
extended."

Page 104:
"To Retract Slideout Room
Before Retracting!
• Be sure the coach is level and the Parking
Brake is set.

• Check the outside of the coach to make sure
there are no people, pets or obstructions near
the slideout room.
• Make sure that there are no people who could
be harmed or obstacles that could cause
damage due to room retraction.
• If the slideout room has a couch or other
furniture, make sure no people or pets are
seated on them until the room has been fully
retracted.
• Remove all items from the coach living room
floor, close cabinet doors and drawers. Be sure
there are no items at the end of the bed or
behind the driver seat or protruding from
compartments which could be crushed or
cause damage to floor covering or cabinets
when the room is retracted."

I am in my 3rd Winnebago product. I have always leveled first and than put the slides out. I always close the slides while it is still level and than retract he jacks. I feel like Davel that the slides have less stress on them when the rig is level.

HWH told us to level first always. It lets the slide go out in a rectangular opening. If un-level the slide opening may be twisted. We did it wrong on an unlevel site once and the slide was hard to extend. It kept rubbing hard on one side. I would imagine that left to right level is not too important but front to back is. Just guessing but it makes sense to me. (that's not saying much though )

There should also be a printed copy in the Winnebago Black File Folder Bag that comes with the coach with all the important papers in it.

I think it depends on the chassis. When you level the chassis 'should' come into alignment, ie no or minimal twisting. Your design has been tested by the coach manufacturer (I hope) before the instructions are published.

This meridian requires leveling first. Forgot to level once and one of the slides bound. Not a good thing. So, I suggest you do as the owners manual suggests. Another example is with my last Winne. The 40' Vectra needed to be leveled front to rear and then side to side. This new to us coach is sided to side then front to rear. Same company. Different instructions for different models.
