Slide locks

My 08 Winnebago Journey 39A has slide locks. How do i find and lubricate these. I had one stick last week, after repeated try it did unlock. Also is it safe to drive without the locks engaged.

thanks for the help

Good point, I have never lubed mine either. I will have to look into that. Always work fine, but I think you should always use them. I see a post about slides coming out on thier own here recently.

I think the locks are built into the slide. Access is under the slide topper material that rolls up & extends when you open/close! One would need to undo the slide topper (Could be an interesting task) to work on the lock. Be very careful driving without locks on. I twice lost hydrologic pressure An if was not for the locks the slide would have pushed out while driving on the road!

I would not want to drive too far or too fast with the locks not working. Might do other damage, such as alignment issues, to the slides while driving. Newmar told me explicitly to NOT lubricate slides or locks.

Jim

I have 09 Journey with the same slides and locks. There was a known issue with these locks jamming. Google "Power Gear slide out locks sticking" and it will bring up a thread here on IRV2 with a link to a PG technical doc describing how to fix it. If the link to PG no longer works, pm me and I will send you a copy. The fix is described as repairing a "binding" lock.

The link comes up a 404 error but if you search the technical bulletin number (82-S0504) you find it at the Lippert site. Here is the current link https://www.lci1.com/assets/content/...g-82-S0504.pdf I have an issue on my Sunova which has a Powergear slide on the passenger side that that has a lock that sometimes you can hear it lock or unlock and others times I hear nothing. I don't know if my issue is the same issue as Jim has however as I would think they would have fixed the 2011 issue by 2015. Nonetheless good info to look into the issue further.

pdf

Thanks very much Robmat. got the PDF printed and in my bag. Hope I never need it. I have tested mine a few times since I thought it hung up and all worked fine. Maybe i turned it off before fully retracted. Going to FCOC next week and trying to everything checked out.

I had an 2009 39Z and had one slidelock stick after being towed to shop.
they are in the TOP of upper cabinets and are covered with black plastic covers.
the covers come off easily and then you can get to the 'screw shaft'.
if they ever stick, you can grip gently with channel lock pliers and turn manually. i always feel better when I have a solution if the problem arises again.

hope this helps

We had a 2010/11 Journey 40L one of the locks broke as the tech was conducting the PDI. There is a tiny micro switch which was easily damaged. They fixed it but it took a week to get the parts. We chose not to use them. We put 75K miles on the coach without a problem.
