Exclamation Slide Gear Damaged

Any ideas why the gear from my 2011 Sightseer 33C small living room slide having teeth worn away made by Power Gear? It is being serviced to have
It replaced.

I was told at a manufacturer, that the gear should be washed with soap and water.
Then you can use a dry lube on it.
Nothing that will catch dirt.

My RV mechanic stated they do see gear failures.
No reason other than maybe the slide locks may
not fully release thereby putting a strain on the gear.
Suggested after releasing the lock push the slide in
button before pushing the out button. He stated the slide may drift out thereby not allowing the lock to release fully.
I did this today and the slide light did come on
momentarily. I proceeded to then put the slide out.
