Roof Sealant and Side Moulding

I recently bought a 32 ft. Itasca Suncruiser. The Roof Sealant for the Skylights etc.is in pretty good shape except for a few spots where it has lifted. Its kind of soft white rubbery stuff which is probably Factory Sealant. I was going to use some Dicor Self-Leveling Lap Sealant but local Rv Dealer wasn't sure it would stick to the Factory Sealant. Has anyone used this or something else.

I also have some Osmotic Blisters just above the 2 In. Metal Strip that is at the bottom of the Sidewall that covers the Baggage Door Hinges. Can this Strip be removed without damaging anything. I want to expose the bottom of the Sidewall to see if there is Water in there and possibly dry it out to stop the Blistering or maybe Delamination.

I would only use the same sealant Winnebago used. You can download Winnebago’s sealant sheet or can call Lichtsinn RV to order some. I recently had damage to my sealant around the skylight and had to patch it. It turns out in recent years Winnebago uses a silicone self-leveling sealant around the Skylight and other areas. Some say you should remove all the old sealant before resealing, but I checked the manufacturers site and it indicated it would stick to silicone. So, after cleaning thoroughly with mineral spirits and alcohol, I was able to repair by adding sealant to the existing, and it adhered really good. If you need to patch I would give that a try first, though age may be a factor in whether it will stick to existing sealant.

I agree and, when I did mine, I used Eternabond tape on all my roof fixtures after re-sealing. I think you'll find that the Winnebago part number cross references to Nuco 331 Silicone. If the sealant for a fitting (vent, etc.) is in really bad condition, it's best to remove the fitting, clean everything up and start over from scratch. Piling on gobs and gobs of sealant over old is not only ugly and wasteful, it doesn't work very well.

The sealant call-out sheets can be found here:
