Question on Winnebago 26HE lining on compartments ..cheap
Appears it’s aluminum foil, wth for the money these things cost zeeezzz
Anyway there are spots that look like corrosion has eaten thru it... this thing has never seen road salt or winter,,
The floor of the compartments have like thin wool indoor outdoor carpet on them
Under the carpet is mint..
I’m thinking about cleaning and caulking the holes on the side walls and using this same type carpet ???

I put some carpet scraps in the basement compartments of my 2016 27Q before our trip from Alaska to Indiana a couple months ago. Very little rain on the trip down and the compartments remained dry. It was quite the opposite on the way beck home with several days of rain. Once home and unloading, I found three wet compartments. No sloshing water, just damp or wet carpet. Upon removing the carpet, I noticed peeling paint on the joints where the fore and aft sides meet the bottom. After cleaning up the flaking paint I spritzed the joints with one of those spray sealers advertised on TV. Haven't been back on the road since then and our Winnie is about to go into winter storage so I won't know until next spring if this fix worked.

These are dry and it’s not the floors it’s the aluminum foil on the outside walls

Mine had exactly the same..it's like the aluminum is just rotting away..I was thinking there may have been a bad electrical ground somewhere or the panels were acting like sacrificial annodes!! for dis-similar metals? I am hoping my new rig does not have the same reaction.

I wonder if it might be galvanic corrosion.

The rot was in many of the basement cabinet walls..I was pretty sure some kind of electrolysis was taking place maybe a reaction with the glue that WB uses..I cleaned and sprayed with wd 40 and removed and cleaned any grounding wire connections...batteries and chassis.. then sprayed them with battery post protector..don't know if it made any difference, but I had to do something to make me feel better...The rig has been swapped for another WB and I will do the same to that..maybe even adding another HD grounding wire between the chassis and the body!..

Its weird because the floor area both inside the compartment and if you look underneath look fine
It’s just certain areas...
I cleaned it up and applied lap sealant to the small areas where it had perforated
I may cover the entire inside side walls with the same thin wool type carpet they have on the floor
Too bad they didn’t use the same fiberglass like panels they used inside my huge rear compartment
It’s nice and clean !

Aluminum skin
I have a 2013 26HE and have no corrosion on the Aluminum. I would check to make sure all your grounding straps are connected. I suspect as you may have already it could be due to poor grounding causing the aluminum to act as a sacrificial anode.

Next time you look under the hood, look at the lowers on both sides in front of the wheels. Yep, same crap. I first saw it in the back inside panel of our 26HE, the one inside the giant storage compartment. I'm not sure what causes the 'corrosion' but I, too, am looking for a way to stop it. Wife and I have looked at several Vista and Sunstar 26HEs and it seem to be a common issue.

Agree...doubt highly its a ground issue, if it was there would be other indications, it blows my mind what these things cost and how they are built or lack of being built,,,voids all over in the sealant on the compartments, cheap aluminum foil covering thin raw plywood, styrafoam floors in the compartments...just seems they should be made a little better

We purchased a 2018 Minnie plus, seems like we paid for the name, not the quality that Winnebago used to be!

I have a 2013 Sunstar 26HE. Occasionally, carpet in one of my outside bins would get wet. Still trying to figure out how. In an effort to dry the carpet when it does get wet, I installed grated garage flooring which allows air to dry the carpet even if there is stuff in the bins. If the carpet wasn't glued down, I would have removed it.

Mine was the caulk seal at the top, I took a bright light at night and had my wife shine it on all the inside seams at the top and sides
Lots of voids in the caulk, used urathane rubber caulk and redid them
Again for almost 100k for this it sure looks like a two year old put it togethet

As I was resealing the joints in my basement compartments, I noticed that the weather stripping on a couple of the curved corners had pulled away from the mounting flanges. I applied a little super glue, stretched the wx stripping back into place, and held them there with small clamps until the glue set. Still have to wait until next camping season to tell if my fixes worked.
