Parking brake cable removal

Hello, I have a 2004 Itasca Sunova 27C P32 Workhorse chassis 8.1 Vortec engine with a 4L85E transmission. Has anyone removed there parking brake cable. My unit does not have the auto brake system. I have removed the drive shaft, yoke and drum from the rear of the transmission in preparation for removing the transmission. I would like to disconnect the parking brake cable while keeping the brake shoes mounted to the base plate. Then I can remove the four bolts retaining the brake base plate to the rear of the transmission. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
