P/S Fluid & Filter

After yearly service at Freightliner service center, I was reviewing the Winnebago supplemental manual recommended service on power steering fluid and filter. If I read the chart correctly, it says to replace both fluid and filter yearly. Why would this fluid and filter need to be changed this often? And how many include this as yearly service.

I've never even heard of power steering with a filter, but I've never worked on big trucks.

I will tell you that when my Ranger got to be about 20 years old the power steering started making noise. I changed out fluid by repeatedly sucking out as much as I could with a pump and then refilling. Eventually the noise went away, and hasn't come back for over 10 years.

As to your question though, I wonder how many miles they're assuming get traveled in a year. If it was for commercial operations it would be a lot more than for RV use. Maybe the supplement assumes commercial use???
