New mirrors for 2010 40AD

We are at the Winnebago factory and I saw a new mirror design on what appeared to be a 2010 40AD model. It had the upper style mirrors like the Ultimate models and also the lower standard style. Maybe they are seeing which one might look or work better.

After looking at my image and some images posted earlier from the GNR I don't think this is a 40AD model. The rear slide out on my image is positioned much farther forward than the GNR posted images. This model looks like it would be a bath and a half tag axle.

Jim,
I drove one of the two new 42ft models at GNR but neither of the two units had the upper mirrors. This unit must be just a "test model" as it has no windows??

IMHO it does nothing for the appearance of the rig. There have been a few times where I needed every inch of front end clearance to maneuver into a spot. These would present a problem with that.

They look like "Bug Antennae" to me...

Just paint that rig Red and add some Black polka dots, and you'll have

Winnebago builds vehicles other than motorhomes. Look at:Specialty Vehicles
Also note the roof-top ACs in the picture shown with the weird mirrors. I think this is one of their commercial vehicles.

Winne is currently the only one who still has h/c models as "standard". Last year Newmar had one, but I don't see it on their website for the 2010 year. Others have had some gasser h/c models only, but they too no longer offer one.

My UA came from the factory h/c accessible, I am the 2nd owner, been very pleased with it.

I received this info on this particular motor home from a good source.

"The motor home is a Freightliner durability test shell. It has been to Gaffney for their testing. It went through all of our test processes such as for the slide rooms and A/C testing. "

The 42' units on display at GNR had roof air as will all DP Winnebagos with engines produced after 1 Jan 2010. Basement air is being squeezed out by the 2010 required emission equipment.

The above is not accurate.

The 1 Jan 2010 emissions date is for engine manufacture, not chassis or motor home manufacturer. 2010 emissions engines will first show up on 2011 Winnebago models. We went through this same thing with the 2007 emissions changes which didn't show up unitl the 2008 models.

At the Washington State rally last week the Winnebago Western Area sales rep said the main reasons for the 42AD having rooftop air were:

- The current TruAir unit doesn't have enough BTU's to cool the larger interior volume adequately.

- There was an engineering conflict with the tag axle.

- Since all the other 42' competition has rooftop air then Winnebago decided not to wait for a new design.

As for the possibility of TruAir basement air being phased out due to new diesel emissions equipment the reps said there was a still a LOT of discussion going on. Daimler Trucks and Cummins and MB have not finalized their external chassis designs emissions requirements/changes yet. There is also a big push for Daimler Trucks to offer some International MaxxForce engines (used to be CAT) as they are all new designs with better mileage/specs and don't have all the external add-ons Cummins is using (i.e. instead of designing a new engine).
