Improving living area
We have had our 38R Adventurer a year. The only problem I have is not having a place to sit my coffee cup and a small dish while sitting on the sofa or chair. I have been looking for some ideas to improve the living area. I have seen the tables that can be attached to the top of the sofa arms, but the kits are $130.00 each.
I am hoping some of you have experienced this problem, and will share what you have done to make a better comfort zone.
I am interested in anything done to improve living space.

Stern,
We replaced our old couch with a new leather couch that came with cup holders in the removable arms. Also, replaced the old cloth recliner with a euro-recliner and bought a "telephone table", measures about 12"x12". works great.
Not to mention removing the entertainment center and putting an LCD on the wall!! We also removed the large dinette table, adding 7 square feet to the living room. We now eat, if not outside, at the counter using bar stools that also are used for end tables when needed.
Our philosophy is to design, arrange, & customize, the interior of our RV for US!
just a few ideas for ya. Just because it is an RV, ya don't have to use high dollar RV items. Example, the euro-recliner, paid $100.00 on CraigsList, value, $800.00. Use Walmart, Big Lots, Container Store, Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Always better deals.
Good luck.
David

We've installed mini-shelves throughout our motorhome for this exact purpose. They are made of a 4" x 6" pieces of oak that are stained and sealed. Using corner brackets (L-brackets), you attach them wherever you need them. We have one on the wall next to our sofa. They're perfect for holding a cup of coffee or a TV remote device. Best of all, you can put them wherever you need them. By the way, be sure to round off the corners.

There are many folding coffee tables on the market. Winnebago includes one with most of their higher end model both gas and Diesel. I had one in my Suncruiser, very handy for coffee, snacks, magazines, etc.

Thanks for the ideas, I was thinking about shelves. I can't remember where I saw small tables that were held with what looked like flexible tubes that would twist to position, and I think they were screwed into the wood on the arms of the sofa. I have been searching for a place that might have some hardware for the do it yourselfer. Drilling holes in the walls or cabinets is my last resort. I will look into the phone table that sounds like it would work near the chair.

We had the same problem in a previous RV. We did, as was suggested earlier, we bought a 1x4 piece of oak at Home Depot. They also sell table legs of several lengths that screw into metal corner brackets. On the back edge of the shelf we put a strip of industrial strength velcro. (no dilling into walls), We used two coffee table length legs on the front edge of the shelf. It worked great and never budged. When we traded the RV off, we removed the velcro on the wall by heating it with a hair dryer, it peeled right off.

We also have a 38R.
We keep 2 fold up snack type tray/tables in the motorhome. Got them at Walmart. I think they are oak but the finish matches the light maple interior in our 38R.

end table
Make two "U's" out of pvc 2 90o ells three straight pieces to fit over the arms of sofa or chair. Make it a tight fit. Attach a flat board 4x20 or whatever size makes you happy. Place over the arm and viola a place for your snack or cup.. Good Miles

I use the same tables. I found also that if you fold the one leg section in you can rest the table top on your lap for a great computer surface or for writing. The remaining leg set stabilizes on the floor.

The coffee table was made from an
Oak step legs/brackets from home depot the table edge from Oak scraps. The end table from one of those craft stores (Michaels or AC Moore) $20.00/$30.00 & a few coats of polly. If your sofa has no arms one end could be lifted up.

I bought a small hassock with storage in it and a top that can be turned over and has a tray like top. I store the bedding for the guest bed in it. I also plan to add casters to the bottom to make it easy to move around.

We bought a small end table we simply set next to coach. Cost very little, one ft square top with magazine rack below and just about matches our woodwork.
