Our outside range vent seems to do alot of flapping especially if it is somewhat windy out. Any tricks on what could put on it to hold it closed?

Forest Gump might suggest, "Bubba Gum".

We use a small chunk of window airconditioner insulation foam from the home center. We wedge it into the exterior vent opening with the awning pole, and remove it with same.

Works great. We also put another chunk in the dryer vent as well.

We clip a spring clothes pin onto the center support of the outside louver, then just move it up when parked.

I have used a sponge, color matched, and it seems to work fine.

Closepins, sponges, insulation? Isn't it great that we have to resort to these solutions on a big buck RV.

Some actually have a "Tab" that you can turn that keeps the "Flap" closed.

The "Sun-Valley" trailers and fivers we sell have them as a standard item from the factory.

But most are on trailers and fivers. It would be a LITTLE too high to reach on most motorhomes. I know if my "Dream" had one I could not reach it..... And I am not "Verticaly Challenged"..

I'll have to try the insulation or sponge trick.
Of course, if that doesnt work, I can always use the "bubba gum"

Our HR fiver has a tab outside you turn to lock closed. Also good for windy nights to keep it from flapping all night.

Just starting to work on this problem in mine. My wife suggested thin "stick on" insulation applied along the edge of the vent vanes (the parts that are clattering). Not with the idea of holding the vent closed, just eliminating the noise and it doesn't add to the "to do" list of making and breaking camp. Has anybody tried something like this?

Incidentally, my (much less expensive) Southwind had a solenoid that snapped the vent open when the fan was turned on and snapped it firmly closed when the fan was turned off. Sure am glad I spent almost twice as much to get a coach that I have to use foam and bubba gum on...

We have the same problem when parked. Seems to come and go. Drives my wife nuts. Clearly something that should be on Winnie's to do list.

By the way, I assume everyone is talking about the convection oven/microwave vent.

My DW is having trouble with this unit and is beginning to hate it more all the time. As a MW it works well, as a convection she is unhappy. It seems the Sharp will not get all that hot and hold the heat. Anyone else find this?

Thanks

Don, I think the vent is the same with or w/o the convect. The non/convect is still an over the stove unit that has an exhaust fan. Sounds like yours is being rattled by the wind when it's from that side.

I put a thin strip of "stick-on" insulation on each side of the vent flapper this afternoon. Killed the rattle when I flapped it by hand - will let you know if it helps when driving.

We have the convect/mw unit also, but haven't had the opportunity to use it yet. Our walk-through tech said if you want to use it as a regular oven, (w/o convect) just select preheat and leave it on preheat for the duration of your baking.

Not as good as a proper convect, but it still might make cookies.
