Several weeks ago I reported rust in my water compartment. I repaired the rust by removing the door gasket and treating the rusted area with POR-15. The Starter Kit for $16.50 was more than enough to fix the rusted area on the door facing and the steel mount under the water hose reel. I replaced the entire door gasket after repairing the rust. Your repair looks great. Please tell us more about POR-15, I've never heard of it. Obviously it works wonderfully. How difficult was the application?

It was a fairly easy application. I used a rotary wire brush on an electric drill to remove the loose rust. The POR-15 is a three step application. First, a cleaner/degreaser. Second, an application that attacks the rust. Last, the POR paint. I used semi-gloss black. Hopefully, this application will last the life of my coach.
If exposed to sunlight, they suggest you top coat with a hard paint. I did not use a top coat. Evidently, the paint will discolor over time if exposed to sunlight. Since everything was inside my water compartment I didn't see a need to topcoat.

That sounds fairly straight forward. Where can I obtain the POR-15? Is there a web link to the company?

Nice work Rex We have water that is intruding into the electrical bay when we drive in rain and I'm afraid we are going to be on the same track as you at some point. I assume you bought new new gaskets from Winnie?
Tom - I found this link for the product.

John, you have the correct link for the POR-15 product.
Yes, I bought the entire new gasket (12 foot)for my water compartment door from a Winnebago parts supplier. It is sold by the foot.
Try this link:

Gentlemen, thanks for the link. Looks like really good stuff. I am developing a bit of rust at the base of the entry door. This looks like a reasonable way to correct the problem for the long term.

I've heard of the POR product and may eventually try it. I had similar rust along some of my exterior compartment doors. I removed the seal, sand-blasted the areas, and used Rustoleum's new product, Rust Reformer, followed by flat black paint. So far, all looks well.
In some other areas, I've used Loctite's Extend rust-converting product and I'll be interested to see if either of these products hold.
