My name, you see, is Charles Blair,
And I do not like the hoop base chair.
It leans me forward, and I swear,
I can't get comfy in the hoop base chair.
My friend Ellen likes the hoop base chair,
Her apartment, I'll put it there.
When I find another, better chair,
If someone here will tell me where.
I know folks put other things over there,
I like to watch baseball from a comfy chair,
It can be ugly, I don't care,
Must fit through the door, so beware.
I know someone has replaced their chair,
And could bring a smile to Charles Blair,
If you would care to post, and share,
Where I might get a better chair.

Love the poem! Check out this thread on replacing your recliner!!
La-Z-Boy chairs' back comes off, allowing you to get it into the coach. Also, if you buy one with a swivel base, the base comes off and the old hoop on your hoop recliner bolts on directly! This way you can clamp the new chair just as you did in the past.

If I could write poetry I'd answer in kind, but since I can't I'll just have to answer the best I can! We had the same problem with the chair in our Sunova. It was only a glider, and the back was low and uncomfortable. If you can't fall asleep in a chair while watching TV, what good is it?
In our 34A the chair space is really narrow so that cut out the choices drastically. What we finally found was a recliner made by Best Chair that fit perfectly. It's a wall-hugger style so it can recline without first pulling it away from the wall. We had several hundred fabric choices so it was a snap to get something that looks good. The down side was that we had to order it and it won't be in until mid December.

Ron: which one on the linked website did you find that fit? Thanks! Steve
On edit: lots of choices! How are the prices?

All I have is a model number on my paperwork, but it appears to be the "Elise" model - the 5th chair on the left on the recliner page. The price varies by the fabric choice, but ours was $380.00 at a local furniture store. BTW, the back is removable also so it'll fit through the RV door.

Thanks Ron! Per their website, there's a dealer near where we are now and our stick home in NC so your info is very valuable. BTW, I'm a native of Jacksonville but in the dark ages: R.E. Lee High School '59. Went off to college in SC and then the Army so it has been a long time since I've been there except to pass through. Steve

I have a 2004 Sightseer 35N & have also installed a "Best Chair" I chose the Video Recliner. The second from the left in the Video Recliner section. It is a smaller version of a traditional recliner. I used the original hold down nut plate & added one more. It can be moved to where you need it & while traveling I secure it to the floor with a seat belt.If interested in our setup. http://picasaweb.google.com/sight04/...Model35nAddOnS .

Friday we picked up a small recliner at Ashley Furniture. It has a hoop base and ottoman. It also has a massage feature. It was $129.

Howdy Charles Blair
with woes of your chair
Hope is not lost so
Don't despair.
A Euro chair I put in
All leather and foot stool
Soft as deer skin
Cheap it's not (but the saleslady was hot)
So, I paid and left
With my new chair
All leather and foot stool
Man, was I cool.
Paid thru the nose
For that chair
You can sleep for days
It's comfortable there
Ekornes' the brand
And they're not cheap
But if you pony up
You'll rest sweet

Nice to know we've got such good poets on our forum .
I bought an Ekornes 'look alike' for the motorhome and it's pretty comfy. However, I went shopping for the real thing for the stick house today....the Ekornes Stressless recliners are really nice. The one I want is about $1,800 .

Chuck,
If your major complaint with the hoop-base chair is that is leans you forward, you might try the lever that sticks out the back and turn it to relieve the tension. On ours, in a 2005 Adventurer, that puts the chair in a more "normal" position and to me is much more comfortable. I can get to sleep with almost anything on the TV in a heartbeat. Cheers.

Good catch Jack! I must be tired as I didn't catch on that Chuck was using his chair in the travel position. That lever on the back is to keep your chair from bouncing off the wall while going down the road. Once you've arrived at your destination you can turn the lever and the chair is ready to use comfortably!

Thudman,
On my chair it sticks straight out the back just below the upholstery - a simple twist of the "L" shaped handle locks it down.

Must've been a mod after my recliner. Not there. Maybe DriVer has one?

The Amish know how to build a chair that fits through your motorhome door ...
It has an octogon base on the floor
It allows you to recline, glide, and swivel before your snore ...
Look at this URL if you want to learn more ...

2001 and do have the lever. Put a FlexSteel captains chair mounted on the same style base with seat belts as the front passenger in its place and moved the hoop chair into the house. The Winnie hoop chair from 2001 is now the most popular seat in the house and many keep asking where they can get one.
