Hood latch detached!
Just had the hood latch detach from the glue holding it on, a problem many others have posted here. My dealer says Winnebago may pay for the repair it since it is a well known problem. Here’s hoping!

Al, sorry to hear you’ve got this problem. I got lucky, the last time I took my Adventurer in for an oil change, I parked the RV at the independent service shop and left it there for a day. They said when they came out to move the coach one of the brackets was laying on the ground and the other came off when they opened the hood. They fixed them for free as part of the oil change. So I never had to deal with this issue.
I wonder why WBGO can’t get this problem corrected once and for all?
PS. What happened to your signature?

It is probably easier if you do it yourself. It is just epoxy tht i holding it on. You an buy the epoxy at HD, Lowes, Ace.

CreativePart, that was quite a good deal. My dealer says it costs about an hour for each bracket. Also, i’m not sure what happened to the signature, so I added it back. Thanks!

Sue, I’m not much of a DIYer, so I’ll let the dealer do the fix.

No problem. We were told the epoxy has to set up for ??? hours(think 24 hours) before moving rig. Son-in-law is coming to our rig to epoxy us back together.

As a follow up to my post, Winnebago came through again and authorized LaMesa to fix the latch for me. While I wish they had a better way to attach the hood, I’m glad they stood behind their product even after warranty had lapsed by over a year. Cudo’s to both La Mesa and my great service advisior, and to Winnebago’s customer service.

My latch fell off last week. Taking it in tomorrow to the dealer. Would have done myself, but wasn't sure how to get it aligned properly or how to get it clamped in place until the epoxy set.

That was my concern, too. And if you are still under warranty, it’s best to have it done by Winnebago or dealer.

So far one bracket and five of the grill brackets have come loose (Thank you Pennsylvania and NewYork) JB Weld epoxy fixed them all. Easy to align, as the original epoxy indentations served as a guide.

Our hood latch fell off today while camped in New Mexico. Reinstalled the bracket, then drilled through the front cap and reinforced brackets with stainless steel screws. Used nylon washers on the exterior under the stainless head, and locking nuts and fender washers behind the bracket. The brackets have slots already cut in them for the epoxy to flow through, so I just aligned the new hardware with the existing slots. Saved me drilling through the steel bracket. Reinforced both sides, even though only one failed. Clearly it was just a matter of time before the other side fails... I was fortunate that ours failed while in an RV park. Would hate to lose that bracket to the roadside, or worse have it kicked up into my tow vehicle. After reading others had gone the stainless hardware route I elected to do the same. Hoping this is a forever fix...

I noticed that the lower corner of my access cover was rattling and found one of the “L” brackets missing on the cover itself. I then checked the latch brackets on the engine side and I could wiggle them. It was just a matter of time before they would come off completely. I wired them to the frame so I wouldn’t loose them until they could be fixed. I just had the latch brackets reattached with stainless screws and had a new L bracket glued back on. My RV tech used 3M panel adhesive. This is an item that everyone should check before it becomes a major problem on the road.
