I can't imagine that degree of damage from a failed pump. I assume this is a CAT engine? The HEUI pump pressurizes a fuel rail that feeds the individual injectors. Did the pump mechanically fail and contaminate the injectors or was there piston/cylinder damage as well?

The price may be a bit high but ??. In June mine was replaced while visiting Virgina - cost was well over $7000. That included replacing the six injectors that were damaged by the metal parts of the pump. - Good Sam picked up most of the bill.

Mine failed at about 80,000 miles on our 2004 Journey with a CAT engine ..

Repair bill was in the vicinity of $2,000 ... the repair was in CA so labor charges were quite high

Just curious where you had your work done when in Virginia. My maintenance has been done at the Freightliner Shop south of Richmond but I have had no problems thus far with the C7.

My work was done at Carter Cat in Waynesboro. I'd recommend them but they are really a truck service shop.

This failure must be something specific to CAT. Navistar had used the HEUI system on their T-444E V-8's as well as Ford's Power Stroke engines up to the 2002 model year when the 7.3L went out of production. I've never heard of that engine's high pressure pump failing and contaminating the injectors in the process. It must be something related to the manufacturer of the HP pump that CAT uses. I doubt if CAT makes that pump themselves.
