Help--Carpet removal

Hi All,

I have a 1984 Itasca Motorhome that I just bought and I want to replace the carpet with a laminate flooring. Anyone out there have any experience with the removal of the carpeting? If so would you please share it with me. I'm not sure what to expect once I tackle the job.

Thanks

I replace most of the carpet in the RV and put down Allure laminate sold at Home Depot. Removing the carpet wasn't bad, most of it was stapled nothing glued. If you are not going to remove it all you have to figure out an end point for your transition from laminate to carpet. The allure is thin and sticks to itself. You don't fasten it to the sub-floor so it floats with temperature changes.

Shellback1: Does your coach have slides - if so, were there any issues with scratching the tile when the slides were moved in and out?

Yes and yes. My slide in the LR was digging thru the carpet and padding. I put the laminate down thinking it was thinner and wouldn't get scratched, but it did. I ended up re-adjusting the slide as best I could. I'll probably replace the scratched floor this winter while I'm trying to keep warm somewhere in the south.

Sure, as long as I don't have to replaced your floor

We replaced carpet in our 99 Tradewinds ourselves. Here is a link yo pictures of the project.
RV Floor Project - Windows Live
Carpet removal really wasn't a problem. I did have to dig a bit under the slide to get it removed. The new flooring slid under the slide and made a neat job of it. So far we've had no scratches on the new floor and it's really eaiser to keep clean. We have dogs and have noticed the throw rugs stay in place berrter than when it was carpet.

Good Luck

Dick

Very good job --- Looks like a LOT of work but I'm sure it was worth it.

Hi Senior Moment. We have replaced the carpeting in our 2004 Winnebago Sightseer 35N with a pergo brand laminate. As others have mentioned the carpet removal was not much of an issue. If interested that project's photos as well as others can be viewed at: Picasa Web Albums - Terry & Bev + Cookie - 35 N Remodel

After viewing select: Terry & Bev + Cookies Gallery to view other projects.

Great job and great pics. I have been thinking about laminate flooring to replace the carpet.

Well be that way Shelback1.

My whole purpose of parking next to you was so you could demonstrate on my Winni how a floor is put in. I would document it taking pictures so that after installing mine, you would have a base to start charging for your services!

we just completed our installation of ALLURE plank vinyl flooring from home depot. it looks quite good.
the old carpet was mostly stapled down. it was glued near the fwd doghouse. the bathroom floor was glued and stapled. the most hassle was the staircase. i had help from a professional installer.
veterans get a 10% discount from home depot.
more info and pics to follow soon.

as soon as my dw gets the pictures loaded, i will be posting about that.

we used double back tape in the stairwell, 1.5" oak baseboard moulding and 1/4 round oak around the top edges.
