Grease on Ceiling Carpet

I'd really like to strangle whoever thought it was a smart idea to carpet the ceiling AND ESPECIALLY to carpet the area above the stove!!!! AAAARRRGGGGHHH!!!

So the carpet is greasy from cooking. After getting it clean somehow (best product to use suggestions welcome!), I'd like to install a "backsplash" of sorts up there. Kind of like the one that surrounds the stove, which I think is metal, painted and grooved to look like tile, but it's too thin for actual tile. It is screwed into the walls. Anyone ever put something like this on their ceiling above the stove and if so, would I simply use some screws to attach it to the ceiling?
Just looking for a way to protect the ceiling from the inevitable grease storm! And since I'm full time, I am always cooking and cleaning this grease out of the ceiling carpet is a PITA, to say the least!
Thanks for any suggestions and help!!! And if you find the designer who did this, send him my way so I can slap him upside the head!!

Hi Thumpergirl,
When I look at the Brochure for the 2002 Adventurer 30Y, I see that the ceiling is a "one piece textured fabric." Have you checked to assure that your stove vent hood is drafting properly? With the hood fan on, it should be able to hold-up a paper towel on the vent. If not, you might have a clogged screen, or some sort of critter nest in your exhaust hood ducting. I'm sure you know this, but anytime you run the gas stove or oven, the vent hood should be switched-on and functioning well. Greasy vapors should not be getting up to your ceiling in the first place.

Are you sure it’s “carpeting” on the ceiling? Ok, that’s stupid, if it is. Can we see some pictures to get some orientation? Thanks!
