We didn't know why it was stuck in one gear. It looks like there is not tension anymore.

The entire cable is fine, it's just this little part.

Any suggestions?

I see from your profile that you have a 1979 Winne but not sure about which chassis. Tell us which chassis it is on (Chevy, Dodge, etc) and I will try and place your question in the appropriate chassis forum.

We don't have a Dodge chassis forum so I will short cut your question/s to the Motorhomes, Problems, Solutions and Aftermarket area.

How clean is the other end? Is there a return spring at the transmission? It could be weak or broken. Try pulling the transmission end back and put some penetrating lube on the exposed cable.

We've inspected the cable and it's still attached to the transmission. Not sure what you mean when you say 'return spring'. I'll have to look at that.

We've manually shifted the gear and it sprayed the part that connects to the transmission with WD40.

It shifts easily to N,R,D,D1,D2, it just wont go back up to Park because it 'bends'.

You need to put some lubricant on it. WD-40 is very temporary as it is a water displacer, hence the WD in the name.

A return spring would return the cable to the position selected and keep it tight. I would think there would be some sort of tensioner or adjustment somewhere in the apparatus.
