Fridge Wiring help

I have a 1990 Chieftain and I am swapping my failed two way fridge with a used 3 way I bought for $75 bucks. Since I will need to run new wires for the 12volt does anyone know what gauge it requires?

need a little more info. How many amps dose your refer draw on the 12 volt side, how far away are you batteries in feet or meters.

Do you have a fridge brand and model number? Maybe someone still has an install, instruction sheet kicking around.

I'll see what I can do on a model number. i know it's a pretty old Norcold absorption model. But hey, it was 75 bucks and I'm cheap. If it last a year I will have procrastinated a new $1500 replacement

I had a 3 way fridge in my Airstream Landyacht MH but after using it on the 12 VDC system once I vowed never to do that again. It depletes the battery bank quickly and in the Airstream it wasn't very large.

You'd be better off just using the LPG and 120 VAC systems to run the fridge and forget about running the fridge on the 12 VDC side.

If the run is not too long to the battery bank, just match the gauge wire that is coming out of the back of the refrigerator. On the only 12v refer I had, I did not hook up the 12v. Used just LP and AC. But the 12v wires looked to be 12 gauge.

typically I find propane to be pretty efficient for boondocking, but I like the 12v option so I can keep the fridge going while I am on the road. I would prefer not to run my generator when the weather is nice out and I am not a big fan of using propane while underway in a 20+ year old motorhome. As it turns out, I already have the wires run for a 3 way fridge not being utilized in my coach. So that solved that issue. Now I am trying to figure out how to get the old one out and the new one in as they do not fit through the door. Removing a window is not an option for me.

Does anyone have a link on how to remove the cooling unit from a norcold? I've searched with no success.
