This problem isn't specific to motorhomes. While most of the time the dash is hard to read there are times when it's almost impossible to read in both our motorhome and my 2010 Ford truck. Sometimes adding a little back lighting by turning on the parking lights helps. Other times when sunlight comes in the drivers side window nothing helps. It's like looking into a black hole.
That is rather suprising on the trucks. Currently driving a 06 F350 and a 13 F450 and never had an issue seeing the cluster. But I also don't need glass's as my vision is perfect. But using polarized and non polarized sun glass does not seem to make much difference. However reading my cell phone with glass's can be a slight issue.
There Ya Go! ghutch came up with what I was looking for! I'll be heading out today to pick up an LED light strip, rocker switch, etc. Thank you for sharing your solution, ghutch! And Thanks to all for their thoughts on solving the problem.
The Auto Zone stores in my area do not carry the LED light strip as a standard item, at least not in the 10-inch length. They did have them in a 28-inch length. I wound up having to place an order for it.

The ones I got @ AZ were a "cut to length' style, so the longer ones will work if they are like mine. Just cut the strip at the indicated cut points, which are about every 1-2 inches.
Bought 2 LED flexible strips from WalMart, took off cover and put them in the space between clear dash cover and the removable cover. Wired in the dash lights and works much better. Have to turn down brightness at night. Not perfect but much better
