First outing in our new to us Chieftain
We are the Elsmore's, Brian and Amy. We sold our old 1983 Fleetwood Jamboree and bought a beautiful 1999 Winnebago Chieftain 35U. It has 24,000 miles and so far only problem we are having is with one jack not coming up without a little help. And a very smelly black tank. Lol. I will work those issues when I get home. We are on our first outing 150 miles from home and are really enjoying it. Love to hear from other 35u owners as what to keep an eye on. Happy travels!

I had an 01 35u Chieftain. Loved it. Put 62,000 miles on it to 49 States and all 10 Canadian Provinces. The only issue that gave me problems was the HWH hydraulic slideouts. I went to Moscow Iowa twice and they finally got it right. Good luck and congrats.

congrats. We have a 98 Adventurer, 35wp and love it. After working thru a few mechanical issues, it has given us no more trbl. Preparing it for use this week, before Wisconsin weather turns cold. As far as the sticking jack, try extending it, spray it with a good coat of wd40 and wipe off the excess. It will usually work. I have one that needs a little help if I extend it all the way. Instead I put 3 2x12 squares under it and never have an issue.

I had a '99 Adventurer ... one jack got very stubborn about retracting ... it was really a bear in hot weather.
I stopped by Moscow, IA ... they replaced it because one of the seals were troublesome ...

We have a 2000 Adventurer 35U and quite like it. Had same problem with one of the rear jacks, sprayed and wiped clean (didn't fix), replaced the return springs ( new heavier ones) on both rear jacks, (still didn't fix), and finally replaced both rear jacks. (Fixed!) I also rarely put them all the way out anymore. I have made 2x8 blocks, 4 pieces thick and put them under the jacks. I have heard that these HWH jacks can be prone to slight bends in the ram if extended all the way out and the motorhome moves or slips. Blocks are also good in softer ground. We have driven it to Arizona twice with no other problems. We also tow a Ford F150 4x4, which can carry my Goldwing.
How old are your tires? Lots of talk on tires aging out after approx 7 years. I only have 31000 Kms on this rig.

That rear slide is one of the best things about the 35U. The head of the queen bed and a double mirror closet slide out to give you plenty of room.

We have a 2002 Itasca Suncruiser 35U, we love the plan, it was available for many years and I would guess that it was one of their most popular floor plans.

Congrats on your new-to-you motorhome. You didn't mention anything about replacing what might be 14 year old tires. Use "Search" on IRV2 and read information on this important issue.

Congrats on your new to you 35U. I assume that you have the F-53 Ford chassis. I have about 37000 miles on mine now. I had one rear jack that stop extending and this past summer, I discovered that the other will not retract without help. I seldom use them because I mostly use sites with level concrete pads. Besides rust forming around the windshield, this unit is rock solid. I love the floor plan and the large storage compartments.
