Ok, I did a search and came up empty.
Which brand of step ladder do you carry and how tall? Trying to come up with something that will fold up fairly small and not be too heavy. But would still like the standard steps. Do you know what I mean? Thinking about long term here.
What material do you have? Aluminum or Fiberglass?
Thanks!

I carry this one:

I fits in the basement compartment next to the water heater on my 35U.

$99 at Costco.

I carry a 6 footer that folds up to 5 inch square X 6ft. Camping world a few years back, less that $100. Standing 3/4 way up I can reach my roof and top of windshield to snap on the sunshades.

I also have the folding 6' ladder from Camping World. I carry it in basement under slideout.

I have a folding 6 footer as well. Stows away nicely. However, if I could do it again, I would buy an 8 footer.

Now at Whiskey Lake CA. (Campground is a parkinglot!)

Hi blucrabbie,

At least for the 2004 Itasca Horizon, Winnebago offered an optional folding ladder that stowed in the living room slide out in a nice swivel out box. The ladder when folded measures about 4" x 4" x 6' long. The box is slightly larger. The Winnebago part numbers for the ladder are:

148880-01-01A Ladder-Folding, 3.5" x 4" x 73", 23 lbs.
or
148880-02-01A Ladder-Folding, 3.5" x 4" x 73", 26 lbs.

Don't know what the difference is. If you've not seen one of these ladders, they are about as compact as they come. Each individual rung folds in the middle and at the sides to collapse the size in width and then hinges at the top to collapse the depth, hence the 4 x 4 size.

Perhaps someone has pictures of it for you.

I also carry a CW folding ladder and store it in the street side compartments. However, since you said "standard steps", I don't think this qualifies. As small as these ladders fold down to, everything is hinged and you wouldn't believe how many ways it can bite you! Ask me how I know...

I have an unused rear ladder bike rack. I've thinking about hanging a standard 7 or 8 foot step ladder off that bike rack, bungeeing a few places and wrapping the whole thing up with a bike lock cable for security.

Not an elegant solution, but I'll have a sturdy ladder with steps that are comfortable for bare feet...

Did you search in all forums?

Be sure to uncheck the "Search current forum only" box, and 6 pages will come up on a "step ladder" search. 56 pages on a "ladder" search.

I need an 8' ladder to reach the top roof rail on my coach so I purchased an aluminum step ladder that hangs on the rear ladder nicely.

I use the larger of the fold ups. You can go up either side. It stows in the pass through compartment. It takes up no more room than 4 inch pvc pipe. Two drawbacks its heavy and a finger pincher if you are not careful when you fold it. But its well worth it.

These ladders are nice and light weight and very sturdy. I carry the three step but I wish I would have bought the five step.

I carry a 7' aluminum folding ladder that compacts to apx 4" x 4" x 7' -- that is the maximum length I can get in a pass through compartment. I would have prefered an 8', but the 7' has worked for all but very rare tasks. I think CW sells these, along with other vendors too. The steps are not quite as wide as "normal" steps, but you can climb either side.

If I needed to carry a longer ladder I would get one of the 10' or 12' telescoping aluminum ladders that collapses down to apx 31" x 21" x 5".

A step ladder is one of the first things I bought since I can not come near to reaching the ceiling exhaust fans. I bought a cheap two step unit from Wal-Mart that I store in a lower compartment. It is a little inconvienient to get in in the bath room after the morning constitutional, but necessary no doubt, the fan needs to be on.

I bought a Little Giant step ladder. Not too heavy at 29 lbs. and expands easily fron 5' to 8' in a few seconds. It is extremely stable at the 8' length as I am usually standing on the last step (not the top) doing somthing around the roofline of the RV. When folded to 5' it stores easily in my bay.

I weigh 330 lbs....for me it takes a very sturdy ladder. I opted for the 10 ft fiber glass heavy duty which i lock onto the rear ladder. I needed it once when the living room canopy came undone on I-64 just outside St. Louis.

I carry a fold up step stool inside the coach. Mostly for the wife to access upper cabinets.

I don't carry a ladder. I just borrow one from the campground or one of my camping neighbors. Roof access is available via the ladder on the back of the motorhome.

If I decide to carry a ladder I'll get one of the telescoping ones.

I have one like Tom N shows above.

Weighs about 20 pounds.
They are pricy - I got mine marked down from about $150 to $135 at an Ace Hardware store. It sure is easy to store.

The ladder I posted has a 300# capacity. That capacity is hard to find in a telescoping ladder.
