Dinette bed fail

We have a 2020 2455 BHS, just purchased in Oct. On our first trip we were getting the hang of everything...attempted to make the dinette into a bed, placed the table top on the wooden rails, husband sat down (to lay down) and CRACK. The entire wooden rail (well, all 1/2 inch of it) split. We’ve since fixed/reinforced the rail, but still have no trust that the piddly wooden rails will hold the tabletop plus a human. Has anyone customized/rigged your dinette bed for better support

You can always replace it with some square aluminum or steel tubing of an appropriate size. I was going to suggest angle stock but that would be tough on your legs:

Another alternative would be to make new rails out of hardwood like oak or plywood of an appropriate thickness. If you make them 2" - 3" high, I doubt that would ever split.

I suspect you just had a bad piece of wood. In all my years of RVing, two TT and now a MH (and many more years of sailboating with similar beds), I've never experienced this and I'm not a lightweight.
