clean injectors now?

I have 50,000 miles on the Journey 3126E Cat and it runs like a top but mpg seems lower this year...Never added a cleaner but have a 10,000 mile western trip planned this summer...any comments on adding a cleaner like the Lucas injector cleaning product....comments appreciated....RKL

I also have a 2002 Journey with the same engine and about the same mileage. What kind of fuel mileage are you experiencing? I am getting as high as 9+mpg at 55mph to as low as 7mph at 65mph. I will keep up with this thread to see if an additive will be benificial

Robert Rice.....At 55 mph I usually get between 8.5 and 9 and at 65 I usually average about 8...I used to get about 9.5 to 10 at 55 and about 8.5 to 9 at 65....RKL

I don't think that you have any problems. Sounds about right to me.

You are probably due to have the valves adjusted. That will make some difference.

Also, I would suggest that you keep an eye on where the oil filter adapter attaches to the block. That area is known to begin leaking around 50K miles and it can sure make a mess on your radiator. The repair looks simple, but access can be a problem and the oil cooler is involved as well. There is a service bulletin about the problem.

As ernieh has suggested, if you haven't had the valves adjusted, it's time. CAT recommends having it done between 30-40K miles. It should result in a mpg improvement. Call your CAT dealer.

I do not like LUCAS products. They have never done (for me) what they have claimed. More snake oil than performance. There are much better products out there that will do as claimed.
