Centeral AC Problems (Basement Air)

Having trouble with my AC on my 2004 Itasca coach. When I get up in the morning and it's say 75 degrees in the coach, I put on the AC and set it on say 73 degrees. The AC comes on and goes off when the temp goes down to 73 degrees. But, as the day gets hotter the AC keeps running but doesn't cool the coach enough for the AC to shut down. I changed the filter 2 days ago, which was VERY dirty, so I know it isn't the filter. I hope I have explained this problem enough for someone out there to understand my problem.

Is the second compressor not comming on? Start by checking the breakers. Power managment on some of the newer coaches may be an issue however since I have a 95 Vectra someone else would have to comment on that.

Try looking back a few months and use the find I believe that John Canfield and others may have had a lenghty discussion on this.

Hello Charlotte & Joe, welcome to the forum!

I had a similar problem with my A/C having trouble cooling the coach. Bottom line was that a circuit board on the basement A/C was bad. Was replaced under A/C warranty.

Your best bet would be to have a Winnie service center take a look at it. If the A/C had not been run for a while you should be able to hear the second compressor start up about thirty seconds after first compressor and see the amps reading increase on the power center gauge. On our coach both compressors would run on Heat but not on A/C.

I had a similar problem with my 03 Horizon. I happened to find the duct work from the basement air separated under the rear cap and conditioned air escaping and not going into the coach. I took the MH back to the dealer and they said this is a common problem and did a resealing and tape up of the duct work that fixed the problem. You can check this easily by feeling the area around the back cap while the blower is on . If it is leaking it will have a cool breeze blowing out the rear of the cap.

I had the same problem last summer and had a tech change out a bad relay. It was located in the outside pannel by the reset button.

Had the same problem on my 04 Horizon. Had the entire A/C unit removed and checked, all OK. It's the duct leaking into the engine compartment!!!!
