On my previous TT's and the one MH I have owned, I installed one of those center supports (not center rafter but small cradle) to keep the bow out of the awing roller. This is the first RV I've owned with the metal awning cover. Can you use the center cradle support with this set up? Anyone have one?

I had one and then replaced it with the center rafter. It appeared to work fine. I just wanted the center rafter.

I highly recommend the Optima center support for any awning over 16ft in length. Even if you do have the aluminum weather guard, this unit will take the stress out of the center of the awning.
In reality, it should be standard equipment on awnings over 16 ft. I don't understand why we have to buy an accessory to protect their product. They know the center is weak and needs support!

Yes, I agree, you really need it on a larger awning. I installed a center support cradle on mine last year, and even with the metal awning cover, it works just fine.

I have installed the center support on my awning also-it works fine with the metal cover. Just follow directions and make sure the holes through side of MH are sealed properly.

Thanks for the feedback. I like the cradle made by Carefree but an now wondering if I should install both the cradle and center support rafter. We will be heading out next week on a beach trip and I expect the wind will be blowing...already have tie down straps for the arms.

sm;ranger,
Why would you put a Carefree product on an A & E Awning? A & E has their own products and I think they'll do a better job.

I certainly wouldn't put chevy parts on my Ford.

Tomcat:
Carefree has a universal cradle that I used on my previous coach....I liked the look, function and ease of install. What I saw from Dometic/A&E would work but I liked the Carefree item better.
