Purchased a Cummins genuine parts fuel filter for my Onan 5500 Generator. I missed the small print where it says to use the 149-2341 near the fuel pump. I purchased the 149-2648 that was listed in the grid on the recommended replacement parts. Similar size and it's missing a hose barb, but i can improvise there to make it work out.
My QUESTION: Do you think I can use this one since I paid $38 for it on Amazon and it's too late to return? It's been sitting in the garage for a while now.
How can I tell the flow restriction to know if it's any different than the 149-2341. My concern is the 149-2341 is on the inlet side of the pump and is more of a strainer than a filter and that this one (149-2648) is supposed to go on the pressure side. Maybe more of a restriction??
I realize I probably need more of an expert here and it's only $40 but thought I'd throw it out here because you guys/gals are awesome and have helped me make a lot of decisions in the past.

I don't think anyone will categorically say yes, go ahead. Unless you got the blessing of the Onan/Cummins product support team, I'd be very wary of using the wrong part. $40 versus the cost to repair the generator, if it malfunctions as a result? It's only a fuel filter, but they make them different for a reason.
I'd send a note to O/C and ask them if they're interchangable, before trying it.
My 2 cents.
My take on it would be that if the microns of the filter element are the same, and you can get it hooked up without any chance of a leak, then go for it. They may have different flow capacities, but generators aren't high flow devices, so that's likely not an issue.
