Bugged up with bugs!

On this last trip of about 1400 miles, from San Diego to Seattle area, I didn't have much trouble with bugs until about Idaho. When I got to my final destination my coach front was splattered with very sticky bugs that refused to come off. I spent 2 days trying everything in my bag of trick to get these slimy sticky things off the front of the rig with little success.

I was talking with a old friend and retired RVer about this just yesterday. He learned a trick, way back when, for dealing with these little buggers. You know that stuff you use to clean in the bathroom, Scrubbing Bubbles? Through Jim's mentoring I tried it on my coach bug front. Why did I not learn about this trick years ago! It works like a champ and does not harm the finish.

After cleaning and drying I started applying Rain-X 620115 2-in-1 Exterior Detailer and Water Repellent. That is a job. On the windshield it wanted to streak but with a lot of toweling I did get it to look good. On the paint it is not as fussy and does a good job of bringing up a bright sheen. Again, it was a RV friend who recommended this product to me. His truck and 5th wheel looked great. He warned me that the first time applying this stuff would be hard. After that not so much. I still have a lot of coach to detail and it will take me a week or so to do the entire rig I think.

Happy trails to all.
Rick

Which "model" of Scrubbing Bubbles did you use? I see at least 4 different versions of it on their website. I'll assume it's not the toilet stamps or duck bowl cleaners.

That's funny. I grabbed what DW has in the shower room. It's the "Bathroom Grime Fighter" formula. Because I still have the 3M shield on the front of the coach it only looks OK. The bugs damage the shield and leave imprints in it. Protector??? Not.

Thanks JR.
I may give it a try. I think we also have/use that stuff. I'll ask.
I've got full body paint, so I'll try it on a small area first, but if it doesn't eat the tile or tub in the bathroom, maybe it won't hurt painted surfaces.
EDIT: That's the stuff we have. Confirmed by co-pilot.
