Awning will not retract? 2006 Vectra 40KD

We have a 2006 Winnebago Vectra 40KD motor home and this morning we extended the awning and now it will not retract. I removed the awning motor inspection plate and verified that the motor is running foreword and backwards. The awning is sticker says its a Dometic unit but I believe the parts are made by Fiamma. I have read that the drive coupling that the motor drives is stripped inside the awning tube {pn 3310300.000} but that part is no longer available. Short of removing the awning has anyone had any luck manually retracting the awning?

Your awning on your model year, should be made by Dometic or A&E. Fiamma is what supplies many parts for them. I've had that motor drive apart on our awning. Our coach is very, very similar to yours in that, it's an '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the CAT C-7 330HP. Now, you state that you verified the motor spins in both forward and reverse, correct? May I ask how you did that? Did you disconnect the wires to it from the coach and supply your own 12V to the two wires? Then did you reverse the two wires and make it run the other way?

And if you did it that way, and the motor was spinning in either direction, the awning did not want to retract or extend further? Just wondering.

I took the inspection plate off of the back of the awning motor and was able to watch the white plastic drive gear rotate foreword and backwards when I push the awning in or out button.

I think your tension spring on the other end of the tube is broken. I had to replace mine. Here is a You Tube on how to replace it:
