Average MPG - LCD Info Center
On my LCD Info Center all readings appear ok except average MPG which is stuck at 5.9 mpg!!
Anyone know why this reading is incorrect and does anyone have a solution on getting it to read correctly? I know how to do it by hand but I like things to "Work the way they are supposed to".
Thanks.
Gary

I beleive that's the average since new. I don't beleive it can be reset, but, I could be wrong.

You are right that it cannot be reset but I understand that many others have the same issue with the mpg stuck at 5.9 mpg and nevechangeling. My actual average mpg is 7.1 mpg from calculation.

I have 2004 Vectra 40AD /Cummings 350 ISC and factory installed Trip Tek. When looking at the engine mode it showed MPG from time it was born, which gradually increased the further I drove it. As I remember it was quite low, less then 6 MPG buts increasing. Other screens on Trip Two would show instant, trip, an leg MPG. These were fairly accurate. Several years ago there was a upgrade/flash done by Cummings to the computer. About 60 miles later I checked thru several of the screens and found the data was way off, I keep written records of this data. Was a weekend and too far to go back. The first clue that something was wrong was the historic engine data which showed as more then NINETY MILES PER Gallon. My other screens were also off until I reset them. I have watched the Historic data for the engine steadily decrease and it is now approaching my actual MPG, but has taken over 20k miles to do that. Apparently the flash scrambled something.

According to a white paper published by Cummins it takes about 144,000 miles for the on board readout to be accurate.

Your mph does not seem to change because the sampling period is since day one.
Yes you can reset the mileage reading using the little joystick. Highlight the mileage window using the up down on the joystick, then go left or right (I can never remember which way) to bring up another window to reset the reading. You can reset the trip mileage the same way.
After resetting the mph, your reading will be very responsive to your lead foot, but will settle down after you have a few days on the road. It is the average since last reset.

On my 2008 Tour 40TD the reset works the way smitty3509 describes. The computer is accurate to .1 MPG difference compared to manual calculation. Pretty close I would say. I reset before each trip and see between 8.0 and 8.7 MPG depending on how and where I drive.
