Atwood WH no electric

I saw a very old post about this but was unable to reply so jumping in with new one.. I have 2002 Winnebago Adventurer with Atwood MPD 93756 water heater. Electrical has gone out, LP fine. Either needs resetting, thermostat or element I assume? Everything I read says will have to pull unit out(I do not want to tackle that!). My question, if I cut an opening/hole in “metal box” from under MH to access rear of WH, any problems? I can tell where “hollow” so would just use Dremel to make opening to be able to reset or replace element/thermostat. Thanks for any replies/Wisdom.

Mine came with an access hole cut in the metal under the water heater. It is about 3" wide by 9" long. It is closed with a plastic plug.

Longer would have been better.

I removed the WH check valves and redid the plumbing in this area. Access to the rear of the WH was from both the side and underneath. It is a tight fit. View with a mirror and feel before you cut.
