Anyone replace front tv, above dash

Have to replace the tv above the dash. The dead one is the 25" RCA. found a 26" Samsung flat screen, which is 1" to big for the steel cage. Samsung has a 23" flat screen, but really dont want to down size. Why doesn't mother winny, make an ajustable cage. Have a 02 horizone. Any help would be appreciated.What have other owners done for replacement?

Our 25" RCA also died last year. I also discovered that, while the cage is sturdy, it is not adjustable. I actually bought a 26" Samsung LCD and planned to re-work the cabinet and mount it in the front. However, DW fell in love with the LCD and it ended up in the bedroom of the stick house. So, I found a 25" Sharp CRT TV at Best Buy and it fit like a glove.

The Sharp is fine but if I had to do it again, I would find another LCD and figure a way to mount it in the front of the cabinet. I've since replaced the 19" GE TV in the back with a 20" Panasonic LCD and it fit the opening perfectly.

I just completed the installation of a Sony 26 inch LCD Model # KDL-26S2010 in my 2006 Journey today. The TV I removed was a Sony 24 inch CRT. The fit was perfect and I only had to build a bracket to attach the LCD wall bracket to. The frame went back in place without modification. Polaroid also makes a 26 inch LCD that would have been a slightly tighter fit. I took photos of the installation and will post them if I can figure out how to shrink the image size.

Would love to see the pics. If you use one of the photo software programs (like Microsoft Office Picture Manager) they usually have a feature that let's you 'compress' the image for web use.

sammie-- Did you do the changeout to cut the wieght and hopefully take some of the movement out of the cabinets.

It started out as a job to just remove the TV and fix the squeaks and rattles located in the TV cabinet. Then one thing led to another. The original TV weighed 72lbs. The new one is around 36lbs. The whole job was pretty easy considering I didn't have to modify the frame around the TV. I would post pictures if I could just figure out how.

Sammie, did that mounting plate come with the TV? If not could you provide the make/model or where it was purchased. Does it attach securely or can you adjust the tilt of the TV? I have a 2002 Journey DL and plan to replace the TV next month.

The mounting bracket was extra. It's a universal type bracket so it will fit several models. I bought it at Circuit City for around $100.00. The LCD mounts solid to the bracket so once mounted it does not swivel, move or tilt. I drilled several large holes in the plywood backing to allow the heat from the TV to vent. Anything electronic needs to be vented.

Could you clarify something for me? Did that plywood come WITH the metal bracket? Or did you come up with that yourself?

Nice job...and great idea to take 36 pounds difference from above your head! I cringe when our tv starts rattling.

The only thing included in the mounting kit is the metal bracket to attach the LCD to. You have to supply the plywood and extra pieces of angle iron which is what I used to fasten the whole thing to the original metal TV cabinet.

Looks very good. Any secrets on removal/reattachment of the cabinet facing?

First remove the sunvisor below the TV. Then remove the eight screws on the plastic bottom TV enclosure. They are located inside small plastic caps around the bottom edge of the enclosure. Be careful not to drop the plastic caps or screws into the defroster vents. Finally there are two screws located inside the cabinets on each side of the TV, they are screwed into the wood frame. Then slowly slide the wood frame and plastic bottom down as a unit. It's really not as hard as it sounds.

I replaced my 26" original TV with a Poloroid 27" LCD. My install was on a 2002 Ultimate Advantage. On it, the TV bracket was secured with two bolts at the base of the built in cabinet. I cut a piece of 1/2 plywood to fit the contour of the base of the TV cabinet and then fastened the LCD to that base. I used the base mount that came with the TV and then added two aluminum angle pieces to the upper screw holes on the TV which are anchored to the rear edge of the plywood. I drilled two holes on the sides of the plywood to fit the existing bolts in the cabinet so the plywood would slip in and could be fastened down with the existing bolts in the steel cage. Before fastening down the plywood base, I added some of the foam door insulation that you use around outside doors (to cut down on any vibration). The original trim piece went back on and the TV looks like it belongs. I stained the piece of plywood cherry to match the color of the cabinet work. I will try to take a couple of pictures this weekend and let you see the mount. It is very sturdy and allows venting as there is no obstruction on the back of the TV. I have been thinking of adding two computer case frame fans to better circulate the air behind the TV to further cool it. They run off of 12 volts and that voltage is available from several sources.

What TV was in that space before you replaced it? I have a '01 Journey and the cabinet looks similar to yours.
