Another Keyless Entry Problem

Have searched and didn't find this particular problem.
The key fob on my 04 Ultimate Freedom began operating erratically to lock and unlock doors, and finally does not work at all. It is a SCS/Fregette system.
Changed battery and made sure it is over 12 volts.
Funny thing is, if I hold the fob within about 6 inches of the receiver in the basement, it works. Will not work otherwise.
SCS is out of business. Called Winnebago. Said replace system with TriMark.
Have not been impressed with TriMark locks in past.
Anyone have this problem? Advice?
Thanks.

That's what happens when you get all those bells and whistles...more problems. I'll stick to the older simple motorhomes and be camping while you're fixing.

Yep, I eventually tossed my remote in a drawer. It would work, then get tempermental, and if I took it apart and messed with it, then it would work for a short time. Don't know if DW's remote still works ...doubt it as I haven't seen her use it for quite awhile now. It was nice to have, but the keys take up less room in my pocket now!!

A number of things can be done before "Throwing the remote in a drawer"!!

- Clean the two contacts in the door frame and on the door. You can use an eraser.

- open the remote and clean the contact rubber piece that makes contact with the printed circuit board. I use isopropyl alcohol available at any drug store.

- clean the contacts at each end of the battery holder. Again an eraser can be used.

- make sure, as others have stated, that you battery is in good shape.

Keeping the system clean sure helped my similar problem.
