Aluminum skin underneath flooring
The aluminum skin underneath my Forza has several places where it has cracked and where corrosion has damaged it. Should I try and patch the the aluminum or can I just caulk it with silicone?
The floor has been repaired and the water leak at the water heater has been repaired.

There’s Aluminum decking under the floor in your RV? I’ve never heard of this.

Hi Terry,
My Minnie Winnie 22M has what appears to be blue-anodized aluminum on its underbelly. Perhaps a product made specifically for aluminum would be better; something like Hy-Poxy H-450 Alumbond?
Please let us know how you finally do the repair.
Thanks, Eagle5

Hummm, I have this too, but I’ve never thought of it as underlayment for the floor. I guess it must be?

I talked to Winnebago about what to expect during a floor repair. I was told there would probably be a layer of tin on the outside. Do NOT, he said, patch it with aluminum if it needs patching, as it's not tough enough for all the gunk that the underside is exposed to.

Hi Lemonade,
I must admit that I am surprised that Tin is used to skin the floor on the underside. At $16.50 per pound, it is more expensive than other materials, and not particularly lightweight. At 0.264 Lb/in3, it is 2.7 times heavier than Aluminum's 0.0975 Lb/in3.
I would therefore change my recommendation to patch it with standard-cure J-B Weld.

I expect when they said Tin they were referring to thin sheet steel and not actually Tin.

I am wondering if they are confusing underside of rv floor boards with underside of RV. In our case our rv floor bottom is the top of the basement and not exposed to anything out harsh?? We have a couple of plats under the RV that I would call tin and the cover on the floors appears to be a thin aluminum.
