I'm getting ready to be a little adventurous tomorrow and do the first fluid change on the tranny.
I found the Transynd fluid at $35.35/gal
and the filter kit @ $65.92
at a local allison shop so all toll should be around $250.00 including tax + my labor. Looks like I'll save a minimum of $200 to $250 by doing it my self. The highest quote was $750
and low was $450
. Talked it over with the Allison rep ( fine guy
with a few tips) and he indicated should'nt be any issues. Maybe a little messy but hey, it's my dirt & gravel drive way
. I will most likely buy a tourqe wrench over at Northern Tools tonight but I not including that in the costs as it becomes another needed tool in my work shop. Some of the quotes I received indicated ranges of 18 qts to 27 qts of the Transynd
. Don't know why the large range but Allison rep indicated 19 qts so buy 1 extra (5 x gals) since they do not know how much will stay in cooler. He also indicated that the filters have 2 magnetic rings on each filter so be careful not to screw them up. Just wipe clean with cloth. Tourqe the filter plates back to 40 ft/lbs (reason for tourqe wrench). Wish me luck, will let you guys know outcome. ps: me doing it does not destroy the warrenty!
Also, been away from the post a while so I'm glad to be back.....;
