Adding support handle ?

Need to add a support handle for my wife.
On the exterior, right next to the door lock.

Something like this.
https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories...on/AH-150.html

Any problem using the enclosed 1” screws or might there be something that would get damaged?

2020 ND

Thanks

Ed

I’m surprised the 2020 Navion 24D doesn’t have a grab handle next to the door!

I would guess that there must be a “stud” of some sort on that door frame to support the door jam.

But I have no knowledge of what is actually there to bolt to. It needs to be solid to mount a handle there.

I’m still surprised that there is not one there to begin with.

With an aluminum framework, wonder what’s the best way to attach the handle?
What length of screw?

Your wife may not need the extra "help" but we found the fold-away handles to be much more effective:

I'd try calling Winnebago for advice on screwing it to the metal framework. I know with some models, they actually install steel backing plates in certain areas for attaching hardware. They emailed drawings to me for my 2002 35U.

Worst case: You could always thru-bolt the handle with nice-looking acorn nuts on the inside with fender washers, all of which could be painted to match your wall covering.

I completely agree with BobC with one exception. I’d through bolt it with a polished SS backing plate and acorn nuts. Last thing you want is for her to be relying on the handle and be putting her full weight on it and torquing it going up into the unit for it to come flying off. Would not end prettily.

Check out the "Lighted Exterior Grab Bar" on this site. A few folks have added LED lighting which causes the clear plastic bar to light up at night - very cool!.
