Access panel modification

Have a Minnie Plus with 2 access panels, one for water pump and the second for the water heater. They currently are attached with small wood screws, removing them to winterize my trailer. I can see that this solution is not going to last long until the screws not longer have a "bite" in the mounting panel. Looking for any suggestions for a better, and lasting solution. Any help would be appreciated.

The solution is going to depend on the thickness of and the material from which the "mounting panel" is made.

Can you provide that information along with the same information about the access panels? A photo would help.

I might consider a ...
... wood thread to machine thread stud
... flat washer
... wing nut
