Winnebago Mircro Mini 2100BH

Hey everyone,
We bought our first TT (Micro Minnie 2100BH) and finally got to take it out this weekend it went so great, we learned a lot of course being our first time out, but hey we did it at least and didn't have any big issues . I wanted to see who here pulls their TT with a SUV? We have a 2020 Chevy Traverse with the tow package. We were just curious if anyone has some advice on towing it correctly with weight and everything? Any suggestions would be appreciated I a m always nervous of pulling to much lol. Thanks again

Congrats ClarkFam,
Although I don’t tow with an SUV, the ratings for my mid-size GMC Canyon are similar to your Traverse. When you load up your 2100 BH, you’ll be adding about 1,000 lbs to its dry weight, we’ll under its 5,500lb GVWR, but close enough to your vehicle’s tow rating of 5,000lbs that you should avoid carrying a load of gold ingots in the pass thru. Your Traverse has a payload of 1,798 lbs. From that, you must subtract the trailer tongue weight of 430lbs, leaving you a vehicle cargo capacity of 1,368lbs. With two adults and two kids, you’ll have to be vigilant about not overloading and exceeding the Traverse’s GVWR . I struggle with this because I tend to load up my truck bed with a bunch of heavy stuff. Loading up the rear end will change the hitch height of the tow vehicle and thereby changing the level point between tv and tt. Imperative to have a good WDH and properly adjust the ball height for your intended tv load. With you 120” wheelbase, it’s also good idea to have sway control for your WDH. So bottom line, you’re near your limits, so be careful and mindful of your tv limitations.

Does the Traverse allow for the use of a WDH? If yes, you’ll definitely want one as Marine359 mentioned. My tongue weight is closer to 650 when loaded, but I do have twin 30lb propane bottles and twin 6V batteries. You’ll want to use some sort of anti-sway device (either as part of the WDH or as a separate friction unit).

I’d definitely target a tongue weight of 10% or more of the trailer’s total weight. A bit more is better if manageable by the tow vehicle.

Welcome Aboard Clark Family! I have a similar TT (Minnie Winnie 2101DS) and my tow vehicle is a 2015 GMC Yukon SLT w/4WD. I tow with a Port side adjustable sway bar which is essential in my opinion. I have towed my TT approximately 3,000 miles in the year I have owned it, and I also tow boats frequently.

Without getting into the granular specs (GVWR, tongue weight, etc.) as others have done well, I thought I would just share some anecdotal insights which may be helpful?

IMHO there are 3 aspects to towing: power, brakes, and suspension.

With my 5.3 L V-8 I always feel I have ample power for this tow.

As for braking, I installed a Curt Venturer brake control and activate the tow/haul function on my transmission when towing. I had all 4 drum brakes adjusted on my TT this Spring. I feel comfortable with my braking capability.

My vehicle did not come equipped with a transmission oil cooler, but I checked with the chief mechanic at my GM dealer who confirmed my determination that a cooler was not necessary for this tow. However, I did activate the transmission oil temperature gauge on my gauge cluster which I monitor regularly, and I have my transmission fluid changed annually (well in excess of required PM).

Now, suspension is the dimension where I feel like I am good - but, just within limits, and this could be a factor for you as well? I do not haul fresh water (I do no boondocking), usually travel with grey and black tanks empty, and am conscious with regard to weight distribution (both in my tow vehicle as well as with regard to front and rear of my TT).

So, Just some input here which I hope you may find helpful. I rented a Traverse for travel through Yellowstone Park 2 years ago. I liked the vehicle and enjoyed it immensely.

Safe Travels.

I've recently been on a tire "kick". May I add them to this list?

Towing and Capacity

All good info here! All of the the different numbers can be a true balancing act and can be confusing overall.

Every time I make a new modification or add new gear, I take my rig to a CAT scale, weigh the axles and obtain total payload and GAWR.

Here are a few examples of how I document using OneNote and keep track of my overall towing capacity.

Congrats! We bought our micro minnie last year and had a wonderful summer where we got to break up the covid routine! We use a Tacoma to tow ours and the only SUV that we looked at (and didn't buy because we decided that using the box on the truck to store the big mat and bucket with sewer hose, etc. would be too dirty/smelly in an SUV) was a Jeep Trailhawk. We are thrilled with our Tacoma.

I'm towing my 2100BH with a Volvo XC90. Unfortunately no WD hitch allowed, but still tows quite nicely.

I had almost the exact same truck previously. It went away when we decided to get a fifth-wheel. Looks like a nice combo and a pretty place to use it too. Have fun!

We originally were looking for something really small, like a Boler. We had a RAV4 Hybrid that we loved but it just didn't have the towing capacity. A dealer told us that most people upgrade to bigger units, so we chose a 22 1/2 foot, which my hubby thinks is too big, but I think is almost perfect. And now that we have the truck, my husband and I fight over who gets to drive! I win. I tell him that he drove for the first 25 years of our relationship, so it's my turn now!!

I just bought a 2100BH and I tow it with a Grand Cherokee. A bad surprise I have is that I can't open the GC's trunk while pinned to the 2100BH. Is that the case for other SUVs ?

I can still open my trunk on my XC90.

I can’t lower my tailgate with the MM attached, but that’d be an issue for any Micro Minnie and many other trailers. Lots of trailers have the tongue jack only a few inches behind the coupler. A side benefit of the Hensley hitch is it pushes the coupler back away from the tow vehicle (more space for doors/tailgates). Just due to the extra leverage it gives to the trailer, extending the hitch is probably something I would avoid with a smaller tow vehicle and a traditional hitch.
