Tongue Weight Scales?
Good morning! I'm contemplating the purchase of a tongue weight scale; I know the Sherline comes highly recommended but delivery time from eTrailer is 2 months (mid March) as it does not appear to be a regularly stocked item. Their scale, a bit more expensive and possibly more convenient to use, is available now.
My questions for you good folks are: 1) has anyone had experience with the eTrailer branded scale as I've not see it mentioned here (and if so, what is that experience), and 2) is there an alternative vendor to eTrailer for the Sherline if the eTrailer hitch isn't that good? They're not stocked around here in Chattanooga - I've looked.
Many thanks in advance,
Bob

I have dealt with the people at eTrailer for years and I would have complete confidence in their advice / expertise and in their products. I would not order something like this from Amazon as they have too many counterfeit items in their inventory and do nothing to police the problem

Thanks for the heads-up on the quality of eTrailer branded products. I generally avoid Amazon if possible as I like to support local businesses. In this case, local doesn't seem to want to support me.

I'm not sure where to get one quickly, but I wouldn't leave home without it. I love my Sherline, and am amazed how much better my MicroMinnie 2108DS tows when the tongue weight is around 12%-13% of actual, fully loaded Trailer weight. To me, it was also worth going to public scale to get an accurate fully loaded weight.
I do know you can calculate tongue weight accurately with a quality bathroom scale, a 4X4 about 5-6 feet long, and a couple of wooden blocks. You just have to get the fulcrum placed accurately, so that it distributes 1/4 of the tongue's weight onto the scale, along with placing the blocks to yield a 1:4 ratio of the length.

eTrailer is definitely a great place to shop, and they occasionally have reasonable prices too. Local is awesome if available. I guess I wouldn’t be paranoid buying the same scale from Amazon, especially if Amazon is the seller and you have free returns.

I'm with you on e-Trailer. Good people, honest and reliable. Good product line. As to Amazon, your comments are right on. As a matter of fact, I did reeceiver a defective Sherline on my original order. They did not hesitate to replace it (Amazon), and I did not have to pay any shipping, but I did have to pack it back up and drop it off at UPS. And wait, so that was all a bit of a hassle, but they did make it right. I don't remember why I went through Amazon on this particular purchase, must have been a reason. But, I do use and like eTrailer.

I’ve got one I’d sell, if you want to pay the shipping. PM me.

Thanks to Jakm, a gently used Sherline is heading my way.
I appreciate everyone's thoughts and help.
