Flat Towing a 2015 Subie Impreza w/Manual Trans

Reading conflicting info about towing a Subaru. Forums show that Subaru has back pedaled on towing (including 2012 years forward) yet current owners have towed significant miles with no issues. We have a Journey 36G DP and also curious about tow systems and base plates currently used on Subies. We have an opportunity to purchase a 2015 Impreza Wagon with low miles at a low price. Thanks for any information or experience you may provide.

If your Subaru has a manual transmission - tow away. Subaru's with manual transmissions have always been towable four down but Subaru has dropped their recommendation officially starting with the 2017 models. Up to 2016 are approved, from that point forward, they can be towed but you are on your own warranty wise.

I flat tow a 2014 forester manual, tows nice, The only issue that creep-ed up when i first started is that the car battery would be drained after a trip. with help from a subaru tech we found that the power steering pump is electric and when the car is towed the car brain turns the pump on when it thinks you are moving. solution was to put a one way charge circuit from rv to the car battery so that the rv is always sending charge to battery, works fine. on another note, subaru is dropping the standard transmission in forester starting in new model year, not sure if other models will also be automatic. shame, it is a nice size to pull, and as most subies very dependable
