2016 Fuse 2A towing capacity?

Howdy Folks,
Could anyone advise if a 2016 Fuse 23a towing capacity be increased from 2000 lbs to 5000 lbs like the 2017 models and newer. Thanks for your input.

Greetings TMC Benson,
In reviewing a specification sheets for the two:
2016 Winnebago Fuse 23T
2017 Winnebago Fuse 23T
I see that both model years have the same engine with the same torque output, and apparently the same transmission. Also, they both have the same Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 10,360, which would indicate they have the same final drive gearing and the same radiator capacity. So, the difference in towing capacity would most likely be the Frame Thickness. Winnebago might be able to tell you if additional steel could be welded into place on the 2016 frame to increase the towing capacity to match the 2017 frame. Alternatively, if you could get the 2016 and 2017 models side-by-side, you should be able to measure the differences in the frame sections.
Welcome to the forum.

Thank you, Eagle5. We think alike. I previously compared the specs of both noting what you noted. Thought it might have something to do with the receiver/frame. Not lucky enough to see a Fuse in my location let alone a 2016 and 2017 together for comparison. Considering sizing down from my '04 Journey 32T but my toad is an '01 Suzuki Vitara 4WD straight drive. Don't want to part with her. Need that 5K lb towing capacity!

Hmm...

2017 Fuse:
GCWR 13,500 pounds
GVWR 10,360 pounds
GCWR - GVWR = 3,140 pounds

I don't know what the OCCC on a Fuse is, but it's hard to imagine you could borrow 1,860 pounds of it so you could tow 5,000 pounds.

If you want to tow that much weight, you could look at coaches built on the Ford E-450 chassis. Some of them list GCWR at 22,000 pounds and GVWR at 14,500 pounds.

I just took a look at the two Winnebago brochures for the two model years:
2016
2017
In those two brochures, Footnote 5 (for the 2017) or Footnote 6 (for the 2016) read identically:
Actual towing capacity is dependent on your particular loading and towing circumstances which includes the GVWR, GAWR, and GCWR, as well as adequate trailer brakes. Please refer to the Operator’s Manual of your vehicle for further towing information.
So it appears the difference was in 2017 they specified that the hitch had a 5,000 pound capacity, but they made no such claim in 2016. After further consideration, I believe both model years are the same, and your maximum towing capacity would be as Mark specifies above, that is, 3,140 pounds for either the 2016 or the 2017.
Thanks, Eagle5

Thank you for all the input. On a good note, my ‘01 Suzuki is under 3K lbs. I like the size of the Fuse 23a and the floor plan. It’s a couple of feet bigger than my ‘92 Toyota Winnebago Warrior and that 3.0L is not meant to tow.
